My two dogs get these cookies for their bedtime snack. My Scottie especially loves them. My griff tends to just gulp down treats but these cookies she actually chews. I love them!
I love these leashes and dog harnesses so much that I've referred them to your website specifically. The fast and accurate shipment as well as the cute little bags of treats are awesome. I've even come back and ordered some of the treats that I've tried and my dogs love them.
What a great concept easy to clean and chic simultaneously. Win win!!! Also fabulous from the perspective of height adjustment for all stages of your dogs like.
I purchases two “tuff" lick mats and the base that holds them. My dog has chewed through numerous other mats. These are tough, they are well protected by the holder, and they can go in the bottom rack of the dishwasher. I erred in allowing my dog to scrape one mat with her teeth and she tore off many of the little beads. But that was my error; these mats are great.
My Boston Terrier’s were very bored with their food. I purchased the Northwest Functional Toppers and they now love their food. Their favorite is the Salmon and Freeze Dried Beef Blood. My cats enjoy the Salmon also.
This Saturday, September 23rd, King Duke’s celebrates its FIFTH BIRTHDAY! According to the AKC, this makes us 36 in small, medium, and large dog years, and 45 in extra large dog years, and whatever the number, we are putting on our biggest and best party yet! What do we have in store? TONS!
This month, in honor of Responsible Dog Owner Day, we have put together our own guide to tip top pet parenting; for while there is no greater joy than a loving pet, as with all relationships, there are some non-negotiables.

Besides the requisite cook outs, coolers, concerts, and the crackle of fireworks, 4th of July is a celebration of the end of one journey and the start of another, marking as it does independence from the rule of King George III and the beginning of an ongoing experiment in democratic self government. It marks the first steps on the road that brought us where we are today, a road which has no end but handy directions provided by the Constitution. Thus, it is fitting that in anticipation of a great 4th of July weekend, we bring you part 2 of our King* Duke’s Guide to Summer Road Trips. Let’s go!
No matter how small your pup or how large your pack, there is nothing better than a road trip! To help make sure you end up on the happy hound highway rather than the Boulevard of Broken dog Dreams (shout out to my fellow Gen Xers!), we have a ton of tips; so many in fact, that this guide is a two parter! In this first installment, we’ll cover what you need for the car and the trail, and next time we’ll do all you need for everything else, including eating, drinking, and sleeping. The open road awaits…
Every once in a while, life and art collide in unexpected ways. As I prepared to write about pet health and wellness, I found myself in the middle of a health situation with the redoubtable Lucy the Dachshund. This is not the time for cliff hangers; the green shoots of recovery are starting to show themselves and the patient is happily snoozing next to me! The experience has taught me some valuable things, and we share them here in the hopes that should need them, you may have their benefit.
As long as humans have lived with dogs, dogs have worked with humans, and this brings us to today’s topic: working dogs. Earlier this month, it was K-9 Veterans’ Day, and that set us thinking about the many ways dogs assist and support humans, formally or informally, and what in the world we would do without their love and help.
Truthfully there is no topic about which we do not love to write, provided dogs (or cats) are involved, and indeed we can find a way to involve them in literally anything, so really, who could ask for more? But sometimes we arrive at a topic so perfect, so magically compelling, that the pleasure is doubled, tripled even, and this is where we find ourselves today. Yes friends, we are going to talk about food! Mmmmmmmmm. Food!
To mark the start of the year of the Rabbit, and all the opportunities it creates, we have some ideas and suggestions for our fellow canine Stans and their four-legged friends. There are at least 90 million dogs in the USA, and that means 90 million opportunities for dogs and their humans to win at life in 2023. For the sake of your sanity, and ours, we won’t list all 90 million, but a few of our favorites that we think you’ll enjoy!
Anyone hungry? Anyone bored? Yes! Then allow me to serve you a veritable banquet of treats from the last twelve months in new and delicious ways: the King Dukes’ Holiday Quiz! Whoop!
However you choose to celebrate his holiday season, remember, the more the better! And while we can’t slow the year down, we can make sure every day is packed with fun stuff guaranteed to make the very best memories: so step this way for gift ideas, toys, and tons of tasty treats!
Did you know that gratitude improves our physical, mental, and emotional health? And the more we allow ourselves to experience it, the greater those benefits. Fantastic! So this month, we have picked out some things that we think are especially fun, especially cute, and especially neat ways of saying thanks to our pets. We think you’ll like ‘em too!
The air is cooler, the days are shorter, and everything is pumpkin spiced! We may have said this before, but fall really is our favorite season. And in the spirit of being full-on fall-fanatics, we have doubled - tripled - down on merch that will get you into a spooky mood: goodies, treats, and toys that go squeak, plus all the gear you’ll need for colder weather walks. In short, we’ve got you and the season covered.
Is there a more confounding time of year than summer’s end? Allow us to elaborate; we love the summer! Long days, sunshine, shorts & t-shirts, cold beers. But we love the fall! Crunchy leaves, cool evenings, sweater weather (we long for it!) and pumpkin spice beers. Sigh. It occurs to us that the answer is to create a sort of mash up of summer and September, a smash up, if you like, the best of both worlds. Now this is a pilot scheme, so we hope you’ll cut us some slack, but here goes: the King Duke’s Super Seasonal September Smash Up! AKA, six ideas for when summer meets fall…
Dogs are truly exceptional creatures who have saved lives, advanced science, and generally been all round awesome. In fact, such is the contribution of dogs to the success of humankind that we are minded to propose a canine Mount Rushmore dedicated to the hound heroes of history. It’s a crowded field since there have been many, many brilliant dogs, but if there were to be a Mount Barkmore - and we think there should be! - these are the four furry faces we would most like to see carved thereon. Woof!
It's summer, we're dogs, and there are days. But what are the Dog Days of Summer? And more importantly, how can we make the most of them? We set out to answer these questions in our essential guide to summer, stars, snacks, SPF, and much, much more!
When it comes to dogs, as with pizza, there are no bad choices. But for those considering a new addition to their household, we've put together a handy guide to help distinguish (some of) the lap dogs from (some of) the working dogs and help you pick the perfect pup!
Did you know that May is National Pet Month? To tell you the truth, we didn’t either, but in our defense, this is because it’s been National Pet Month every month since King Dukes was born, and ever thus shall be. To mark the occasion, we have prepared a special King Duke’s guide for new pet parents so they can become puppy pros in no time. What are we waiting for?!
Saturday, April 30th, is Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, and we have an exclusive interview with Callie, a 3 month-old Shiba Inu / Corgi cross, who found her forever home in New York City’s West Village a month ago. Are you sitting comfortably? Then let us begin ...
Our human selves are thrilled to see daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths, and shop for delicious spring veggies, and if we have to risk getting soaked in the process, so be it. Similarly, the hounds in our lives are full of the joys of, yes, spring, finding the new smells it brings to be far more appealing than, say, seasonal artichokes, which Lucy in particular rejects as “utterly confounding” despite their many health benefits. But enough about us, this is about you! Accordingly, we have scoured the earth for the things you need to enjoy all that spring has to offer so you and your pets can make the most of it, rain or shine.
Much is made of the role of dogs in our families and the outsized contribution they make to our health and wellbeing; indeed much is made of that on this very website by this very author! But this month we want to shine a well-deserved spotlight on the lesser-sung heroes of the person-pet axis. That’s right, the cats. And since it’s March, we’re going out on a dainty feline limb and proclaiming Thursday, March 17th as the inaugural Feast of Saint Cats!
While it’s true that we may not be able to serenade our dogs with hit records, accommodate them in royal palaces, promise them stardom on the silver screen - Lucy is particularly disappointed about this - or paint them into a masterpiece, we can definitely make sure they have the most happiest, snuggliest, tastiest Valentine’s Day ever. Prepare to love-bomb them with a range of toys, treats, and themed accessories that will guarantee full hearts and wagging tales.
New year, new energy! Did you know January is Walk Your Dog month? You heard it here first (or second)! Whether you are looking for a gentle stroll or a tough mudder, allow us to furnish you with everything you need to enjoy a fit and fabulous January! Walk this way ...
At King Duke’s HQ, no sooner have the plates been licked clean of turkey (and all the trimmings), we reach for our holiday sweaters, pour ourselves a large glass of eggnog and throw Elf on. And that’s just the dogs. How is it we are able to move from one holiday to the next so quickly and easily? We’re glad you asked! The answer is of course the 7 Ps: Prior Preparation Prevents Pet Parent Present Panic. And if we can do it, so can you! In anticipation of a fantastic festive season, we have created a list of the finest, tastiest, coziest, and, er, loudest treats, toys, and gifts, so all you need to do is sit back, relax, and take your pick.
All in all, we have an enormous amount for which to thank our pets, and so this November, we want to dedicate our Thanksgiving post to all the ways we love them, and offer some ideas for how we might show our appreciation and gratitude!
Ahh, fall! Is there a better time of year than the season of decorative grounds, pumpkins, pumpkin spiced lattes, and “sweater weather”? We think not! And, it turns out, it’s also a joyful time for our four-legged friends. As ever, your friends at King Duke’s have tested the toys, tasted the treats, and cat-walked in the costumes so you don’t have to. Sit back, relax, and enjoy King Duke’s Tricks and Treats: All the Fun of the Fall!
You will know by now, dear reader, that King Duke’s is a place for dogs. Large dogs, small dogs, cool dogs, shy dogs, senior dogs, puppies; we love them all. But you know what else we love? CATS! And we think it’s time we showed them just how much.
It’s summer, it’s hot, and, well, we’re melting. So what better than to head to the nearest body of water and settle in for the day? Simple, right? Well sort of … For the most part, our dogs are delightfully straightforward: walks, good; food, great; belly rubs, good; nail trimming, bad. But when it comes to water, well, not so much. Worry not, though, for we have the answers.
