In a recent Thanksgiving poll, Americans made the following great choices; family is the number one thing for which they are thankful; mashed potatoes are the best side dish (don’t @ me, I’m just reporting the facts); pecan pie is a close runner up to pumpkin; 60% of us are very confident we can cook a turkey properly, but believe only 20% of others can 😂; and last but not least, a whopping 79% think Thanksgiving is the best holiday. And do you know what, really it is! Let me tell you a not-at-all-secret: your humble dog-blogger grew up in a mysterious land far across the ocean known as England, where Thanksgiving is Not A Thing. The single reason I moved across the Atlantic was that Thanksgiving Is A Thing, and I wanted a piece of it! What other holiday is there that asks so little and gives so much? Family, friends, food, and football. I’m in! And in the spirit of low-effort, high-reward holidays, your friends at King Dukes have gathered a truly Thanktastic assortment of goodies to reward, entertain, exhaust, and distract (circle all that apply) you furry friends over the Thanksgiving period. Woo-hoo!

Lulubelles Turkey (plus sides!)

A perennial classic, this fabulous turkey squeaky toy is a fan favorite! Marvel at its durable, double mesh-fused majesty, stare in wonder at its stunningly strongly stitched seams, then toss it to the ten (back)yard line, for this beauty does double duty as a football! Go long, go deep, just don’t go home without one! And may we also suggest picking up some sides? We love these Crown to Tail Organic Sweet Potato Pie treats, not only because sweet potatoes benefit gut health and digestion in dogs, though that’s awesome, but also because they taste fantastic.

Regulars will recall the deep affection in which we hold Puppy Scoops ice cream - we’re crazy for it! - and now the very same canine culinary champions who created those creamy concoctions have done it again! Cuppy Cakes are microwave-make-in-a-cup cakes for dogs. Get the Pumpkin Spice one and pretend it’s a pie! Get all the flavors and have a party! Looking for something even zhuzhi-er? These Puppy Cakes come with frosting, yes they do! And if you have frosting, why not go the whole dog and get sprinkles too! Whoop! We need to lie down.

Sorry for the all caps, but we really are excited for this one. As the rhyme goes, puppies* are made from sugar and pumpkin spice and all things nice, and we know this to be FACTS. Do you know what else we know? Pumpkin is fantastic for dogs, and not just in ice cream or cake. The clever folk at Weruva have created a pumpkin supplement that is a great source of healthy soluble and insoluble fibers to help support your cat's or dog's digestive system. You can add a pouch to your dog or cat’s food, replacing up to 10% of their diet, or, you can give it to them as a treat. Win win!

*it goes like that when we sing it 😎

A newer tradition, but no less welcome for it is the annual Friendsgiving Feast, which in our friend group typically revolves around our pets; birds of a feather and all that. As with any occasion, we don’t like to come empty-handed, or empty-pawed, and this year, we have the purrrrfect gift! Kong Hemp Friends for cats are environmentally friendly toys that are made to delight and distract cats of all ages. Made of natural, sustainable hemp whose texture cats find particularly intriguing, and stuffed with crinkly fabric and premium North American catnip, these babies are perfect for bat, roll and scratch games!! Come for the feast, stay for the fun!

Fall Fashions!

No self-respecting holiday hound would dare be seen out and about - or relaxing and maxing - without a seasonal fit. Yes, that’s right, we don’t just serve food, we serve LEWKS. For formal occasions, we love Huxley & Kent’s adorable bow ties which really plus up any fur. Why not try it in fall-forward chunky check, or picture-perfect London plaid? For more casual affairs, we plump for another sprinkle of pumpkin spice with this pooch-pleasing pinwheel! Looks good enough to eat!

Happy Hour Heroes!

(Almost) all that’s left for us to do is point you in the direction of the libations aisle, and trust us, we’re right behind you. But wait! There is a twist, and not the kind you get in a martini! That’s right, we have a whole selection of expertly crafted tipple-themed toys to keep the whole pack busy while you grab a six-pack. From Barker’s Mark to Pupbts Blue Ribbon, and the finest vintage chompagne, we guarantee your pawty will be poppin’! Just don't forget to invite us!!

One last thing before we go, and that is to express our gratitude to you, dear reader: it's thanks to the support you give us that we can spend our lives doing what we love best, and there is nothing for which we are more grateful than that.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, and a HUGE thanks from all of us and ours! 🧡🦃🐾🐶🐈🐕🐩🧡

As a rule, we are National Day enthusiasts regardless of the occasion. But every once in a while a National Day comes about that fills us with the joy and enthusiasm of 100 puppies which is an apt metaphor since that day is in fact today: National Puppy Day! As you can imagine, the level of excitement at KDHQ is turned up to 11, and accordingly we’ve been gathering not only a selection of puppy merch at 10% off this weekend, March 23rd & 24th, with code PUPPYLOVE24, but also some super fun puppy facts that prove that alongside National Kitten Day (July 10th, mark your calendars!), this is the best day of all the days.

There are various means by which eras are defined: the invention of the wheel, the start of the Renaissance, and above all, Taylor Swift albums, tours - so much so the current one is literally named Eras - and romantic partners. Basically, enough things change enough and that means we're in a new phase. Having said that, we have been thinking recently of a contrast: animals and pets are consistently dominant in pop culture - no changes please and thank you - and every single era celebrates and records them. In our current human-centric age, this seems at first, ahem, glance odd, but as we have previously noted, there are 6.5 BILLION cat pictures on the internet which is only slight fewer than the number of selfies on Kylie Jenner's phone (7 billion, allegedly). In our view, this is as it should be, but it set us thinking: why? Why are animals more enduring across cultures, eras, continents, and content than anything else? Step this way...
